Confetti Network  - Weddings and Special Occasions

Job Title: Senior Systems Analyst

Reporting to the Chief Technical Officer I was bought in to lead the technical department; a team of 2 technical support, 2 ASP programmers, 5 HTML programmers and 1 database administrator, and maintain and upgrade the current network architecture.

My day to day duties ranged from basic technical support to reconfiguring and upgrading old servers and building new servers. The company website is based on 3 Dell Servers running Microsoft Windows NT 4 Server and Microsoft Site Server 3.0. The servers were connected via a Cisco 3524 switch to 2 Alteon Load Balencers behind 2 Nokia IP440 Firewalls. We also have an LDAP server and an SQL server powering the websites via a Cisco 3524 switch.

On the internal network we have a combination of Dell & Compaq Servers running 1 Primary Domain Controller, 1 Backup Domain Controller, 1 MS Exchange Server, 2 DNS Servers, 1 Sage server, 1 Terminal Server, 1 Stats server running Webtrends and Backup Exec and various file servers and staging servers, all running either Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Server or Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server, which are connected via a combination of a Cisco 1600 Router, a Cisco 2600 Router, several Cisco 800 Series hubs, 4 3Com Superstack II Baseline hubs, a Cisco 2900XL Switch and a SMC EZ Switch. The network is managed by myself, both on site and remotely via a combination of Checkpoint’s Secure Remote, Microsoft’s Terminal Server and Symantec's PCAnywhere. I am also responsible for the company’s smaller international networks (France and Germany) which are managed remotely but required me to travel abroad occasionally.

Other Interests and Experience

I am also very interested in reading books, especially Science Fiction; my favourite authors include Iain M Banks, Frank Herbert and Isaac Asimov. I am quite a film enthusiast too; I regularly go to the cinema to see most major films and I also get films out on video too.

The other major part of my life is music;  I am a huge fan of the Goth/Rock genre of music, and I've even done Backline Technical Support for bands such as The Cure, London After Midnight, Killing Miranda, and The Last Dance. I'm also an amateur DJ and have played at such venues as Holyrood Union (Edinburgh), Electrowerkz (Islington, London), Gossips (Soho, London) and The Purple Turtle (Camden, London).
